Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to field first. They started well with the ball, with Spencer Johnson dismissing Quinton de Kock in the second over for a seven-ball duck.
The fall of the first wicket brought Jake Fraser-McGurk to the crease. The 21-year-old youngster, who smashed 48 off 24 balls in the previous match against Sydney Sixers, was at it again in no time.
The second ball he faced was smashed over square leg for six, the third went for four towards mid-wicket, while the fourth was hit for another six down the ground. In the blink of an eye, Fraser-McGurk raced to 16 off four balls.
By the end of the first powerplay, he hit four more sixes, each one out of the screws, taking the Renegades to 54-2 after six overs. The 21st ball he faced, off Mitchell Swepson, was dispatched for another six, his seventh of the night, to take him to a maiden Big Bash fifty.
Glenn Maxwell was all praise for the youngster. “No one in Australia is better to watch then Fraser-Mcgurk. Easily the most talented young batter in the country. His potential doesn’t actually have a ceiling,” Maxwell wrote in a social media post.

Fraser-McGurk was dismissed two balls later, attempting his eighth maximum of the night, for 55 off 23 balls. Melbourne Renegades finished their innings at 162-8 from their 20 overs, thanks to a couple of late cameos from Jonathan Wells (34 off 24) and Tom Rogers (20 off 14). For Brisbane, Paul Walter was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-27 from his four overs.
