Watch: A footage of a batsman’s hilarious dismissal in the European Cricket Series in Malta has sparked much joy on social media, with amateur cricketers joining in with their own tales of brainfreeze dismissals.
It happened back in November 25, in a clash between Marsa CC and Msida Warriors CC. However, the dismissal only really caught the attention of social media on Tuesday, when the European Cricket Twitter account shared the clip.
The Msida opener Justin George was the batsman dismissed – Haroon Mughal looped in an extremely – extremely – slow one on good length and George, who had blasted his way to a 9-ball 26* inexplicably shouldered arms to it.
The ball went on to trap him plumb in front, and the disbelieving commentators could barely hide their amazement. “Oh he’s got to go, he’s got to go – he just stood there and let it hit him,” said one of commentators. “That is an incredible leave, what is he thinking?
“Unbelievable. I don’t know what the explanation for this could be. That was just … bang on middle stump. Just didn’t move look.”
George was presumably under the impression the turn would take it down leg, but there didn’t seem to be any turn whatsoever, and the bowler Mughal watched on in delight as the batsman let it rap his pads.
The dismissal prompted many to be supportive of the batsman.

The wicket turned out to be a key moment in the match, as Msida encountered a slide and finished at 83-6 in their 10 overs, 34 runs short of the target posed by Marsa.
Marsa went on to win the final of the tournament, beating Atlas UTC Knights by 35 runs in the final on December 4.
The European Cricket series comprised over 700 matches across 20 countries in Europe this year. The tournament made news in July when Sharanya Sadarangani made the XI for German side Kummerfelder Sportverein, and became the first woman to play in the European Cricket Series.
