Watch: Fox Rover hilariously dons headband as an apology after Stuart Broad shouts ‘Stop moving the robot’ on day two

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: The Fox Cricket’s rover that had annoyed Stuart Broad on day two of the Hobart Test match, offered a unique apology to the bowler on Sunday morning, leaving him amused.

Broad had been left frustrated after he was forced to stop in his run-up when Fox Cricket’s rover moved behind batter Mitchell Starc just before he was ready to send down a delivery on the second day of the Hobart Test. It led to the England quick shouting “stop moving the robot” in anger, but Broad’s rage against the machine has been assuaged if the rover’s apology is to be believed.

Cricket.com.au had shared a video of the incident on Instagram with a caption, “When robots take over, they’ll be coming for Stuart Broad first”, to which Broad replied by saying, “We had politely asked 5 x in the previous 10 mins & every day in the previous 4 Test matches for it to stop moving when play is commencing. Seems like shouting is the only thing robots understand.”

The rover ensured that the Ashes series ended on a good note, as it hilariously sported a headband, a sporting gear often donned by Broad, as an apology, leaving the cricketer laughing.

“It’s a nice show of support with the headband actually, I’m pleased with that,” Broad told Fox Cricket during a drinks break. “He looks more friendly up close, you see, he’s a bit more annoying when he’s 80 metres away, but he looks a nice little friendly guy from there.”
