On March 19, 2007, Bermuda’s Dwayne Leverock took one of the greatest World Cup catches of all time. Watch it again in all its glory.

It didn’t matter that India racked up 413-6 or that they secured a 257-run win, both World Cup records at the time; this game would forever be remembered for the opening ball of the second over, bowled by Bermuda’s Malachi Jones, the 17-year-old’s first World Cup delivery.

It was edged by Robin Uthappa, and caught one-handed by a diving Dwayne Leverock at slip. Cue pandemonium, as Leverock took off on a celebratory sprint that his sizeable frame would have made seem unlikely, were it not for the athletic effort that preceded it. The gleeful absurdity of the moment was summed up David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd’s biologically impossible summary: “The big man, the fridge has opened! He’s flown like a gazelle!”

Jones would never take another World Cup wicket, or play another World Cup game, and as he walked back to his mark, having carved his name indelibly into World Cup folklore, the cameras caught him wiping the tears from his eyes.
