Watch: Deepak Chahar made a fine comeback to the India XI, setting up Temba Bavuma and then dismissing him with a brilliant inswinger during the first T20I against South Africa on Wednesday.
Chahar, who did not play a game in the T20I series against Australia, struck in his first over against South Africa, dismissing Proteas skipper Bavuma for a duck. Replacing the rested Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the side, Chahar started off with three outswingers to the opener, all dots, before getting the fourth ball to swing back in.
The last ball of the first over – on a full length – curved back in through Bavuma’s bat-pad gap, going on to rattle the middle stumps.
Bavuma, playing his first international match since June this year, did not have a memorable return, departing for a four-ball duck. South Africa soon slipped to 9-5 in a disastrous start to their T20I series.
