Bumrah has been out of action for the last 10 months following a recurrence of his back injury during the T20I series against Australia in September last year.

Since then, he has had to go through back surgery and has missed the 2022 T20 World Cup, the 2023 IPL, and the 2023 World Test Championship Final along with several bilateral series in between.

However, he is close to regaining full fitness now with less than three months to go before the ODI World Cup. There have been reports that he might make a comeback to the national team for the T20I series against Ireland in August.

A video of Bumrah bowling full-tilt from his full run-up at the nets went viral on social media a couple of days back, raising the hopes and expectations of Indian fans, and now there’s some more positive news.

Bumrah shared a post on Instagram comprising various snippets from his bowling practice at the National Cricket Academy with the song ‘Coming Home’ running in the background.

The lyrics of the portion of the song which was in the post went, “I’m coming home, tell the world I’m coming home. Let the rain wash away, all the pain of yesterday. I know my Kingdom awaits…” Coupled with the caption where he tagged the official handle of the Indian cricket team, it gives an indication that Bumrah is all but ready for a comeback.

Bumrah’s career has been laced with injuries, a major reason for which has been his awkward bowling action which apart from giving him an edge in his bowling, also puts him at greater risk of injury.

He currently has 319 international wickets across the three formats. India would be hoping that he is able to add significantly to that tally in years to come, starting with the ODI World Cup later this year.
