Watch: Ben Foakes reaffirmed himself as one of the world’s finest glovemen with a remarkable one-handed catch down the leg side for Surrey against Kent.
Hamidullah Qadri looked to see out the seventh over of Gus Atkinson’s wicketless spell, glancing fine off the hips.
Foakes, who was controversially dropped from England’s Ashes squad in favour of the returning Jonny Bairstow, tracked the path of the ball early before taking flight.
Extending his left glove for the ball, which was by then a considerable distance away from the line of the stumps, Foakes gracefully quaffed the ball and held on with relative ease.
Earlier in the day, Kent lost three wickets for no score, slipping to 35-4 as Daniel Bell-Drummond, Joe Denly and Jack Leaning all fell for ducks.
Kent’s middle-order stemmed the collapse, with Joey Evison making 58 and wicketkeeper Jordan Cox remaining unbeaten on 94 at the time of writing – steering Kent to 232-8 at the Spitfire Ground after a dismal start.
The game is also a County Championship debut for Indian quick Arshdeep Singh.
