Watch: Ayush Badoni seemingly hits score-levelling six, accidentally hits own stumps to spark dramatic near-choke

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Ayush Badoni thought he had tied the scores with a six batting for Lucknow Super Giants against Royal Challengers Bangalore, only for his bat to swing round and hit the stumps.

The game was a twisting, turning one, with RCB pegged back after a fast start before accelerating again, and LSG rebounding after an early collapse before the contest swelled to a dramatic conclusion.

With seven needed off nine balls, the result seemed a formality, and Badoni, who had hit four fours to this point, looked to have ended RCB’s hopes when he moved across and swept Wayne Parnell over fine leg for six.

However, he lost control of his bat swing in the process, dismantling his stumps before holding his head in disbelief.

From there, LSG lost their nerve, and just averted an almighty choke. The Badoni dismissal set in motion a collapse of 3-6, with Harshal Patel bowling a superb death over.

However, he missed an attempted pre-delivery run-out attempt, and though he beat the bat of No.11 Avesh Khan on the last ball, a fumble from wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik allowed LSG to scramble a match-winning bye.
