The 23rd match of the second edition of the SA20 between Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town was delayed by rain. The Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first in what was reduced to be an eight-over encounter.
Cape Town scored 80-3 from their eight overs, thanks largely to their captain Kieron Pollard, who finished with a 10-ball cameo of 33. The Super Kings were set a revised target of 98 from eight overs.
Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy came out to open the innings for JSK and started off all guns blazing. Du Plooy hit the first two balls of the innings for sixes off Nuwan Thusara, including a scoop shot off the very first ball. 18 runs were scored off the first over.
Du Plessis then hit the first ball of the second over, bowled by Kagiso Rabada, for six, before du Plooy hit him for another one two balls later. Another 18-run over meant JSK were on 36 off just two overs.
If that was not a blistering enough start, the third over, bowled by George Linde, fetched 21 runs. Rabada was then hit for three back-t0-back fours and a six in the fourth over by du Plessis to take the total to 77.
They needed another 10 balls to wrap the chase up as du Plessis finished unbeaten on 50 off 20 balls while du Plooy was not out on 41 off 14. Both of them combined to hit seven sixes, taking JSK to just their second victory of the season in eight games.
