India declared on 430-4 with a mammoth 556-run lead in the second innings. Jaiswal starred with a brilliant 236-ball 214 for the hosts, his second double-century of the series. Every England bowler faced the wrath of Jaiswal’s carnage, but the highlight was the over against Anderson that stole the show.
Jaiswal, batting then on 159 off 198 balls with India at 329-4, went all guns blazing against Anderson in the 85th over of the innings. The first ball resulted in a dot, but what followed afterwards was total mayhem.
Anderson bowled a full toss on the second ball while trying to execute a yorker. Jaiswal needed no second invitation as he got low to flick it over fine leg for the first maximum of his six-hitting spree. Next, Jaiswal ran down the wicket to dispatch a wide delivery outside off over extra cover. The southpaw showed no mercy as he sat in his crease next ball to pummel Anderson for another maximum, this time over his head to make it a hat-trick of sixes.
In the process, Jaiswal shattered several records. He became the firstever player to hit 20 sixes in a series, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s tally of 19 sixes in the 2019 home series against South Africa. He also hit the most number of sixes in an innings (12), equalling Wasim Akram’s feat against Zimbabwe in 1996.
