Watch: Playing for the Ghani Institute of Cricket, Usama Mir hit 34 runs in an over against Imran Butt of the Karachi Warriors at the 2023 Ghani Ramzan Tourney.

Mir played three ODIs earlier this year when New Zealand toured Pakistan. He impressed all by clean bowling Kane Williamson to claim his maiden ODI wicket, but these remain his only international matches till date.

With the bat, he averages 19.60 in first-class cricket, 10.71 in List A, and 8.25 in Twenty20. However, there is perhaps some indication of his big-hitting abilities in his 20 first-class sixes, at a remarkable 32 balls a six.

On this occasion, he had made five from eight balls at this point, while the GIC were 151-4 from 15 overs, largely due to Shahbaz Javed’s 40-ball 75 at the top and Shawaiz Irfan’s 24-ball 37.

Having already dismissed both Javed and Irfan,  Butt’s figures read an impressive 2-0-14-2 at this point. But when he bowled from over the wicket, Mir simply dispatched him into the stands over long-on, thrice in a row.

The outcome did not alter even when Butt switched to round the wicket. Mir simply made room and hit a fourth six in the same area.

The fifth ball was more towards off-stump. This time Mir went on one knee and tried to clear the extra-cover boundary. There was no fielder there, but the flat trajectory of the shot prevented him from clearing the rope on the full.

Mir smiled wryly, sent the sixth ball over wide long-on for his fifth six of the over, and broke into a grin. He eventually fell for a 20-ball 66 in the final over. The innings included three fours and eight sixes.

Poor Butt did not get another bowl after sending down the most expensive over of the tournament till date. GIC finished on 236-6 despite a decent show from Karachi’s opening bowlers, Bilal Asif (4-0-26-2) and Haseeb (4-0-31-2).

The Karachi Warriors subsequently forfeited the match.
