Watch: Rishabh Pant almost throws bat into own stumps following one-handed reverse sweep

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: Rishabh Pant played an audacious reverse sweep against Varun Chakravarthy at the Brabourne Stadium – with the bat and the ball flying in opposite directions.

The incident occurred on the second ball of the 11th over. Chakravarthy bowled a length delivery at the stumps and Pant decided to unfurl the reverse sweep. He made good connection with the ball, but lost his balance and fell over. The momentum also meant that he threw his bat away after playing the stroke. However, he still managed to get the ball past backward point and registered a boundary, but had his bat clattered into his stumps, it would all have been for nought.

The Delhi Capitals ultimately finished with 215, courtesy of stellar displays by Axar Patel, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur. Pant also played his part and blazed away to a 27-run knock off 14 balls, with his aggressive intent being refreshing to witness.
