Watch: On-field umpire reverses his own decision seconds after realising slip-up

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: In a rare incident in the Marsh One Day Cup, the on-field umpire became his own DRS, reversing a decision seconds after he originally gave a batsman out for a caught-behind appeal.

Peter Hatzoglou nearly had his maiden List A wicket in the Marsh One Day Cup in Australia when he seemed to have the batsman edging to the wicketkeeper. His appeal was instantly backed by the on-field umpire, Donovan Koch, even as the ball had gone well past his bat.

But before the batsman could even react, Koch realised his error and quickly reversed his own call.

“He knows he’s got it wrong and he’s changed his decision,” former Australia fast bowler Stuart Clark said in commentary for Fox Cricket. “I give him complete respect for that because usually you just give them out and panic about it.”
