Watch: Rohit Sharma was dismissed after making a record-breaking fifty with Ish Sodhi took a blinder off his own bowling.
Rohit led India’s charge during the final T20I between India and New Zealand at the Eden Gardens. He brought up his fifty in 28 deliveries, and secured the record of most half-centuries in T20I cricket, hitting his 150th T20I six along the way.
Despite losing wickets regularly, India were going great guns, standing at 103-3 after 11 overs. The very next over, Rohit tried to take on Ish Sodhi, coming down the ground and attacking the ball. Sodhi fired the ball wide, and Rohit had to reach for it. The batter tried to get it over the bowler, but failed to achieve the desired elevation.
While it remained low it was still travelling at a searing pace. However Sodhi managed to pluck his hand out at the opportune moment, and the ball stuck.
Dominic Cork in the commentary box, went ” Oh! What a catch. One handed. He doesn’t get all of it… He’s stuck his hand out. And that is the end of the captain.”
His co-commentator, Sunil Gavaskar remarked on Sodhi’s nonchalance after taking the wicket, ” I do it every day.”
