Watch: A comical moment in a European Cricket Series match went viral on social media, with a batter dismissed in unfortunate circumstances, nailing a sccop shot only for the ball to rebound off the wicketkeeper’s head straight into the hands of the fielder at backward point.
The game was the last played in the Cyprus leg of the competition, between Cyprus Moufflons and Haidree Lions. The dismissal was a crucial one in the T10 encounter, with Haidree Lions 82-2 after 5.1 overs in their pursuit of 162 to win. Cyprus Moufflons eventually triumphed by one run on the DLS method.
The clip was widely circulated on social media, sparking mirth aplenty.
In 2017, the laws of cricket were amended to allow catches which rebounded off a fielder’s helmet.
