Watch: Brendon McCullum's Leg-Side Stumping Off Fast Bowler To Dismiss Ricky Ponting In 2011
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: In the 2011 World Cup game between Australia and New Zealand, wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum affected a remarkable stumping off Tim Southee’s pace to dismiss Ricky Ponting.

Southee had been giving Ponting some trouble with his sharp inswingers in a fairly straightforward run chase. Australia had got off to a flier with a target of 207 – Brad Haddin and Shane Watson had registered a century stand.

Ponting, however, seemed to struggle against Southee and took some time ambling along into double figures. Realising the batsman was standing outside the crease to counter the movement, McCullum stepped up to the stumps and Southee went around the wicket to deny him room.

The move worked in an odd way. Southee sent a wide down leg-side. Ponting attempted a flick and missed, his feet moving out of the crease in the process. McCullum not only collected the ball cleanly, but also pulled off a terrific stumping.
