Zoe Goss dismissing Brian Lara

Watch: In a 1994 charity game between a Bradman XI and the World XI, Australia women cricketer Zoe Goss shot into limelight after dismissing Brian Lara.

Brian Lara was quite the rage in 1994, having smashed a record-breaking 375 in a Test match and following it up with a 501* in first-class cricket. The same year, Down Under, Lara was part of an elite World XI side, taking on a Bradman XI assembled for a fundraiser for the Bradman Musuem.

Zoe Goss, the Australia women’s cricketer, was a last-minute call-up to the Bradman XI and her moment of glory came in front of a packed Sydney Cricket Ground crowd when she was asked to bowl to one of the leading batters in world cricket at the time, Lara. It’s said that Dennis Lillee, stationed at mid-off, told Zoe a little trick – bowling two in-swingers and then an out-swinger.

“I know myself as a batter, you don’t want to block that third one,” Zoe later told cricket.com.au. The plan worked like magic. Lara wafted at the delivery and nicked to the wicketkeeper, who not only held onto the catch but also stumped Lara out. Effectively, Lara was dismissed twice in one ball by Zoe Goss.

Zoe became quite popular since as she revealed in an interview later.

“I wasn’t really prepared for being famous. I was very prepared for absolutely everything else in cricket, but not that. I just didn’t think it was ever going to happen.”
