Watch: Afghan batter smashes seven sixes in bonkers 48-run over in Kabul Premier League

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: 21-year-old Sediqullah Atal blasted seven sixes in one over of a Kabul Premier League match today (29 July), scoring 48 runs off the penultimate over of the innings and reaching his hundred in the process.

Atal’s outrageous effort came when his team, Shaheen Hunters, were 158-6 going into their final two overs, and he was on 71 off 43 balls. The first ball sent down by left-arm spinner Amir Zazai was smashed for the first maximum of the over by Atal. It also proved to be a no ball with the re-bowl going for five wides. Those two balls together conceded 12 runs.

Zazai bowled a flat, wide delivery for the third legal delivery of the over, having also been hit for a maximum off his second, and was promptly wallopped back over his head by Atal. That shot took Atal to 95 and within one shot of his century. He didn’t disappoint off the next ball, hammering it into the leg side to bring up his three figures.

After he celebrated and took his helmet off to acknowledge the crowd, he hit another six straight down the ground to make it six in the over. He rounded out an extraordinary performance perfectly, hitting the final ball for a seventh six, completing 48-runs in the over.

Even more extraordinary was the contrast to the next over, in which no boundaries were scored, despite Atal being on strike for five balls of it. The Shaheen Hunters finished their innings on 213-6, with Atal unbeaten on 118 off 56 balls. Their opposition, the Abasin Defenders, were only able to muster 121 before they were bowled out.
