Just days on from Trent Boult’s final-ball six to win a Super Smash match, another New Zealand tailender struck a meaty blow to give his side victory in the competition.

Boult’s international colleague Lockie Ferguson was on hand to hit the winning runs in Auckland’s four-wicket win over Central Districts on Monday.

Coming in to bat in the final over of the match with nine required in a chase of 169, Ferguson was on strike for the penultimate delivery after four singles had resulted in a final equation of five needed off two.

While Martin Guptill, one of New Zealand’s leading white-ball batsmen, was at the other end, it was Ferguson who got the job done, swinging for six behind square on the leg side off the bowling of right-arm quick Joey Field.
