Watch: The bizarre moment Andrew Strauss broke his sunglasses in a Test match

by Wisden Staff 2 minute watch

Watch: Do you remember when Andrew Strauss  broke his sunglasses by accidentally throwing a ball at them?

The incident occurred during The Oval Test between England and South Africa in 2012, while Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis were building a huge match-winning 377-run partnership.

Collecting the ball at midwicket, Strauss – then the England Test captain – fielded the ball and as he let go of his throw, the sunglasses perched on his floppy cap fell forwards. The ball smashed directly into the sunglasses, leaving them broken and Strauss’ teammates in fits of laughter.

Strauss went onto call it his most embarrassing moment on a cricket field.
