by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Trinbago Knight Riders have announced their retained and traded players ahead of the 11th season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which starts on August 16, 2023.

Trinbago Knight Riders, formerly known as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, one of the most successful franchises in the history of the CPL, have announced that they are retaining six players for the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Apart from the six retentions, they have also traded in two players, including the highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket, Dwayne Bravo.

Trinbago Knight Riders retained and traded players: CPL 2023

The six players retained by the Trinbago Knight Riders include captain Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, Jayden Seales, and Akeal Hosein.

Apart from the retentions, they have also traded in two players. Mark Deyal, an uncapped allrounder who played for St Lucia Kings last year, and Dwayne Bravo, who was the captain of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the last two seasons, have been traded in. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre has been traded out to St Lucia Kings.

Trinbago coach Phil Simmons said that he is happy with the fact that they have been able to retain the core of their squad from last season.

“We’re very happy to be able to retain most of the Caribbean players from last year’s TKR squad. The experience of Pollard, Narine, Russell, and Pooran, coupled with Bravo’s return gives our squad a very strong core,” Simmons said about the retentions and trades that TKR have done for CPL 2023.

The international signings and draft picks will be announced on June 30. Last season TKR finished last on the points table, their worst season in the history of the tournament, where they managed to register just three wins out of ten games. With another star-studded lineup this year, they will be hoping to turn things around and play to their potential.
