Andre Russell’s 25-ball 64* helped Kolkata Knight Riders post a competitive 208-7 on the board and Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a record chase at Eden Gardens to get their first win of the season. At 149-5 after 17 overs, the game was heavily in KKR’s favour but Klaasen was at his fiery best. Batting at 22 in 17 then, Klaasen made 34 in the next nine balls as SRH made 47 in their next two overs.
With 13 needed off the last over, the game had tilted towards SRH. Klaasen began with a six on the first ball of the last over, sent down by Rana, who bounced back quickly with three runs in the next three balls, including getting the wicket of Shahbaz Ahmed.
However, with Klaasen on strike for the last two balls and only five runs more needed, SRH were expected to pull it off before Suyash held his nerves to latch onto a stunner. Klaasen tried slogging the fuller-length ball over the infield and it looked like it was heading for a four over third-man but Suyash ran back from short third, steadied himself and put in a dive to dismiss Klaasen for a 29-ball 63.
Rana gave away a dot on the last ball to hand KKR a nervy win.
