Watch: ‘A falling six’ – Suryakumar Yadav manufactures off-balance scoop six off high full toss during epic T20I ton

Suryakumar Yadav six | Rajkot T20I against Sri Lanka
by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: On his way to an incredible third century in T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav – in trademark style – manufactured a scoop six off a full toss travelling at him, during the third India-Sri Lanka T20I in Rajkot.

The world is falling short of adjectives to describe Surya. Or for the scoop shot he has perfected. In the 13th over of India’s innings, he hit a “falling six”, as described by the commentator, managing to haul a full toss over the fine-leg fence for six, all while being off balance.

The delivery, bowled by left-armer Dilshan Madhushanka, darted at Surya, who had seemingly premeditated the scoop shot, usually unleashed against full deliveries. The full toss flew towards his crouched frame, but Surya still managed to help it on its way, falling on his back as the connection took the ball over the ropes.

Two overs before that, he had launched Chamika Karunaratne to the same region for six, employing the same scoop hit, albeit with his feet grounded.

He hit nine sixes in total, reaching his century off just 45 balls – the second-fastest for India in T20Is. He finished unbeaten on 112 off 51, taking India to 229-5 in 20 over.
