South Africa have announced a 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup led by Aiden Markram.
Despite his recent lack of form, the selectors have shown faith in Quinton de Kock. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be his last international assignment after he had signed off from ODI cricket with four centuries at last year’s World Cup. Reeza Hendricks is likely to partner him at the top of the order.
South Africa’s middle-order packs a punch with the dynamic trio of Aiden Markram, David Miller and Heinrich Klassen. Ryan Rickleton and Ottniel Baartman are the two uncapped players in the squad. The duo has been rewarded for their exploits in the SA20: Rickleton was the leading run-scorer with 530 runs at 58.88 and 174, while Baartman took 18 wickets in eight matches for title holders Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
The pace battery will be led by Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, with the support of Gerald Coetzee, Baartman, and all-rounder Marco Jansen. Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will be the frontline spinners.
