Social cricket: A Lord’s Christmas song, false teeth and forgetful teammates

by Wisden Staff 5 minute read

A round-up of the best cricket-related tweets, vids and instas this week.

We’ve had an IPL auction, the BBL is well into the swing of things and it’s Christmas time. And of course, The Twitter-sphere was as active as ever.

The eagle-eyed Dom Bess spotted the false teeth of a rugby fan drop out live on TV.

Geoffrey Boycott was as bemused as the rest of us by drone-gate at Gatwick Airport. This Twitter user explained to Geoffrey in cricketing terms why it couldn’t be shot down.

Manoj Tiwary wasn’t picked up in the IPL auction and he wasn’t too happy about it…

Stuart Broad, Harry Gurney’s business partner and fellow Nottinghamshire seamer, introduced Gurney to Indian fans on Twitter. Gurney might not be best pleased with that description.

Gurney, who is really worth following on Twitter, isn’t one to shy away from his online naysayers. His response to one particular bit of criticism was brutal.

If you haven’t seen Suzie Bates’ catch in the WBBL, you really should – it’s a spectacular effort. Her New Zealand teammate Amy Satterthwaite compared her leap to that of Michael Jordan. High praise indeed.

Mohammad Nabi somehow momentarily forgot who his Melbourne Renegades teammate Dan Christian was.

Lord’s released a warm Christmas message featuring, Sachin Tendulkar, Jason Roy, Luke Wright, Angus Fraser, Nick Compton and, er, Kumar Dharmasena.

England team preparations have improved somewhat over the years. David Bairstow and Geoffrey Boycott had to make do with this DIY wicket on England’s 1981 tour to the Caribbean. #england #cricket
