New Zealand’s Ross Taylor jokingly admitted to feeling ‘jealous’ of Nathan Lyon after the latter was given a signed shirt by the Ajinkya Rahane-led Indian team for playing 100 Test matches earlier this year. The Kiwi batter played his 100th Test during the series against India last year, but was not applauded by the rivals in a similar manner.

Earlier this year, moments after India’s memorable win at the Gabba, Ajinkya Rahane and co. presented spinner Nathan Lyon a signed shirt for playing his 100th Test match.

Months later, English skipper Joe Root saw himself return empty-handed after playing his 100th Test against India earlier this year. The Englishman is not alone as New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor too missed out on the large-hearted gesture by the Indians last year, when he played his 100th game during the first Test of the two-match series against Virat Kohli’s side in 2020.

Taylor, speaking to The Grade Cricketer, admitted to feeling ‘jealous’ of Lyon, who was singled out by India.

“I played India in my 100th Test last year, and I didn’t get a shirt. I’m a bit jealous of Nathan. We played a couple of series before, and I’m watching the game and I’m watching him (Lyon) getting a shirt and I’m like ‘Aaah, okay!’”
