Pant, who staged a comeback to cricket after a near-fatal accident 15 months ago, is slowly getting into his groove on the field. A fearless hitter, Pant scored 18 and 28 in his first two innings of the season before scoring an iffy fifty in the win against Chennai Super Kings last time around.
His task was steeper against KKR. Walking out to bat at No.5 after Delhi were 27-3 in the run chase of 272, Pant started aggressively, scoring 20 in his first six balls and continued his aggressive approach against Venkatesh, who was bowling in the IPL for the first time in two years.
Pant crouched before the first ball of the over and sent it over short fine before hammering the following delivery, a back-of-a-length ball, over wide long-off. Pant did not stop, scooping the next ball, down the leg, over short fine. He completed the over with three fours, scoring 28 runs in the over and bringing up his second consecutive fifty, this time in 23 balls.
His onslaught, however, did not last long as he was out for 55 (25) in the very next over when he looked to slog a fuller wide ball from Varun Chakravarthy.
Delhi were eventually out for 166 and succumbed to a 106-run defeat.
