Umar Akmal banned from all cricket for three years for corruption offences

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has been banned from all cricket for three years by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The 29-year-old opted not to contest two unrelated charges of breaching article 2.44 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, which relates to failing to disclose corrupt approaches. His sanction was handed down by chairman of the disciplinary panel chairman Mr Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan.

Akmal has often found himself in trouble with the Pakistan authorities. Earlier this year he was reprimanded by the PCB for exposing himself during a failed fitness test, while former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur told The Pinch Hitter that it was “too late” for Akmal to resume his international career due to his mismanagement.
