Last week, Shane Warne revisited his long-running grievances with former Australia captain Steve Waugh, reiterating his claim that Waugh was “the most selfish cricketer” he had ever played with.
While Warne has the assertion many times, most notably in his 2018 autobiography No Spin, the difference this time was that the leg-spinner had the facts to back himself up, citing a stat that Waugh, who was involved in more run outs in international cricket than any other player, was far more often than not the batsman not to be run out.
Jason Gillespie, a long-time team-mate of both players, soon came out in support of Waugh, and now, speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, the man himself has weighed in.
“People keep saying it’s a feud,” Waugh said. “But to me, a feud’s between two people. I’ve never bought into it, so it’s just one person. His comments are a reflection of himself, nothing to do with me. That’s all I’d say.”
