Latest ICC men’s T20I rankings: SKY stays top, two England bowlers into top five after T20 World Cup win

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

India batter Suryakumar Yadav retained his place at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, while several England bowlers made great strides in the list after their T20 World Cup win.

Suryakumar rose to the top of the rankings midway through the tournament after a stellar Super 12 campaign. He ended the edition with 239 runs at an average nearing 60 and a strike rate of 189.68, notching up the third-highest run-tally in the competition, after Virat Kohli and Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd.

The India middle-order batter achieved his career-best rating of 869 earlier this month, which fell down to 859 after he made only 14 in the semi-final against England. However, it is enough to keep him at No.1, with Mohammad Rizwan 23 points behind at No.2. The top three is rounded off by Babar Azam, who currently has 778 points. He rose up one place after his match-winning half-century in the semi-final against New Zealand, overtaking Devon Conway.

Alex Hales was the other big beneficiary in the batting rankings, rising up 22 places to No. 12 after scoring an unbeaten 86 off 47 balls in the semi-final against India. Hales, who made a return to the international set-up recently, ended as England’s second-higheest run-scorer, making 212 runs in the T20 World Cup. Since his comeback, the opener has struck 430 runs at a strike rate of 145.27.

As far as the bowling charts are concerned, Adil Rashid moved up five spots to No.3 after taking 1-20 and 2-22 in the knockout stages of the tournament. He gained five spots, while his teammate Sam Curran moved up to No.5 after a Player of the Match performance in the final, where he picked up 3-12 in the summit clash against Pakistan. Curran ended with 13 wickets, behind only Wanindu Hasaranga. It is the first time that he has entered the top five.

Curran has also achieved his career-best rating of 688 points this week, a huge improvement from last year, when the best he managed was 491 points.
