The International Cricket Council has named their men’s and women’s T20I teams for 2022, with Jos Buttler and Sophie Devine leading the respective sides.
India players dominated both teams, with three men’s players and four women’s stars making the XIs, the highest representation among all countries.
Buttler is the wicketkeeper of the men’s side that also features his England T20 World Cup-winning teammate Sam Curran. Buttler, who was named the skipper of the national team after Eoin Morgan stepped down in June 2022, had a stellar run with the bat in 2022, making 462 runs at a strike rate of 160.41.
He is partnered at the top of the order with Mohammad Rizwan, who made 10 fifties in 2022 to total 996 runs in the year. He was Pakistan’s top run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, ending with 175 runs in a runners-up finish for the team.
The middle order is India-heavy with Virat Kohli, who ended his century drought with a T20I ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, making the cut. Kohli went on to play what has been hailed by many as the best T20I innings ever against Pakistan at the MCG, scoring 82* in a come-from-behind win. Suryakumar Yadav’s stocks in the format saw a rapid rise as he top-scored in 2022, with 1,164 runs notching two hundreds and nine fifties and scoring at a strike rate of nearing 188. Hardik Pandya is slotted at No.7 and is enlisted as one of the seam-bowling all-rounders for scoring 607 runs and picking up 20 scalps.

Curran, who was the Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup, also makes the cut along with Wanindu Hasaranga, whose heroics helped Sri Lanka win the Asia Cup. He also grabbed 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
The bowling attack is complete with Haris Rauf, who grabbed 31 wickets, and Josh Little, whose 39 scalps helped him bank an IPL deal for 2023 and become the first Ireland signing in the competition.
