Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan all-rounder, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus Covid-19.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly,” he tweeted. “I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah [sic].”

Afridi, 40, is the third prominent cricketer from Pakistan to test positive for Covid-19 after Taufeeq Umar and Zafar Sarfaraz, while Scotland’s Majid Haq and South Africa’s Solo Nqweni are the other cricketers to be afflicted by the pandemic.

Afridi has been an active figure in the fight against Covid-19 in Pakistan, raising awareness and funds through The Shahid Afridi Foundation.
