England players have had their first briefing about measures that will likely be needed to ensure the biosecurity of venues used for this summer’s international cricket.

According to the Guardian players have been told to expect daily temperature checks and regular coronavirus tests as the ECB ramps up their plans to hold international cricket in England in 2020. The news comes on the same day that German chancellor Angela Merkel gave the green light for the premier German football league, the Bundesliga, to resume from mid-May.

The possible plan for England to play their six home Tests against West Indies and Pakistan at two venues with hotels on its premises, Old Trafford and the Ageas Bowl, could see players asked to stay away from their families for up to nine weeks.

The report also states that England could select a squad of up to 30 players for the run of six Tests that would take place in the space of just seven weeks, to account for the condensed fixture list. The ECB’s plans have yet to be given governmental approval though the governing body was asked to take a lead in exploring how live sport can resume by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in April.
