The Netherlands have named their provisional squad for the 2023 ICC World Cup. Here is the full NED team list, with player news and injury updates.
The Netherlands have recalled Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann to their provisional squad for the 2023 World Cup in India. All teams have until September 28 to finalise their squads.
Neither van der Merwe nor Ackermann featured in their remarkable success at the World Cup Qualifiers, where they edged past the West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland – all Full Members – and Scotland to qualify alongside Sri Lanka.
Apart from the two senior professionals, the Netherlands will also count on captain-wicketpeer Scott Edwards, Wesley Barresi, and Max O’Dowd.
They will also look at Bas de Leede to replicate his heroics from the Scotland match at the Qualifiers, which came not too long after Teja Nidamanuru and Logan van Beek helped them beat the West Indies.
This will be the Netherlands’ fifth World Cup appearance. Their record at the tournament stands at two wins, 18 defeats.
In 1996, they had lost all five matches, including one against fellow debutants UAE, though they impressed while scoring 230-6 against England.
In 2003, they bowled out India for 204 before going on to beat Namibia. They defeated Scotland in 2007, though their campaign is unfairly remembered for Daan van Bunge conceding six sixes to Herschelle Gibbs in the same over.
In their last outing, in 2011, they again lost every match – though they made 292-6 against England, claimed five Indian wickets while defending 190, and posted 306 against Ireland.
