Mohammed Siraj has risen to the No.1 position in the ICC bowling charts, after a stunning display in the 2023 Asia Cup final, where he ended with 6-21 against Sri Lanka.
Siraj, who was ranked No.9 last week, rose up eight spots in the men’s bowling charts and has overtaken Josh Hazlewood for the top place. The India quick did not have the greatest start in the Asia Cup, picking up four wickets in the first three innings, but showed his skills in the final, bowling arguably one of the finest spells in recent times.
Siraj started by picking four wickets in an over in the Asia Cup final, which reduced the Lankans to 12-6, and ended with the fourth-best bowling figures by an India bowler. It was his first five-wicket haul in the format.
Siraj currently has 694 points, 14 more than Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who was currently seen in the ODI series against South Africa. He has dropped down to No.2, with Trent Boult rounding off the top three.
In the batting charts, Gill has closed in on No.1 ranked Babar Azam, achieving his career-best rating of 814 points. Gill, who made a fine hundred against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, is the only other batter with 800 points.
He is currently 43 points behind the Pakistan skipper, who has continued to hold onto the top spot since July 2021. Rassie van der Dussen completes the top three.
