Latest ICC Test rankings: Root, Labuschagne back in top three; Asian stars register career-best

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Pakistan and India players were the biggest beneficiaries in the latest ICC Test Men’s Rankings that were announced on Wednesday (26 July), while Ashes performers also made significant gains.

Kane Williamson continues to lead the batting charts despite not playing a Test in four months. He has a 14-point lead over second-placed Marnus Labuschagne, who scored 51 and 111 at Old Trafford to overcome a poor Ashes series. He rose to second place, and is followed by Joe Root, who climbed from sixth to third place after his half-century helped England take a massive 275-run lead in the fourth Test.

Ashes updates

Just 19 points separate Root (853) and sixth-placed Steve Smith, who has registered only 116 runs in his last five innings. He dropped down two points, after starting the series as the second-best batter in the ICC rankings.
