Virat Kohli has slipped out of the top 10 in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, while Jonny Bairstow and Rishabh Pant have made massive strides after the end of the fifth England-India Test.

An unbeaten 114 from Bairstow helped England chase down 378 runs in the fourth innings against India; it was the England batting star’s fourth hundred in as many Tests, and the second in the same match, having earlier scored 106 to help reduce India’s first-innings lead to 132. He now has 1,218 runs at an average of 55.36 in the ongoing 2021-23 World Test Championship and has broken into the top ten for the first time since 2018.

Pant too immensely benefited when the ICC rankings were updated after the Test, gaining five places to fifth. He made a quickfire 146 in India’s first innings, and now has two centuries and three fifties in his last six innings in the format.

Virat Kohli, after a prolonged inconsistent form, has slipped out of the top ten, to 13th, dropping three places. Former India captain made 11 and 20 in the game, and now averages 29.07 since the start of 2021.

The list is led by Joe Root, who consolidated his spot at the top with an unbeaten 142 against India in the fourth innings of the Test. Root also entered the list of 20 highest-rated batters of all-time in the ICC Rankings history. Among all England batters, only Len Hutton, Jack Hobbs and Peter May have had a higher career rating.

There have not been major changes in the bowling or all-rounder charts, which are led by Pat Cummins and Ravindra Jadeja, respectively.
