by Wisden Staff 2-minute read

Khushdil Shah entered the record books after scoring the fastest T20 century by a Pakistani batsman during the National T20 Cup on Friday, equalling the record of India star Rohit Sharma.

Kushdil, batting for Southern Punjab, hammered a 35-ball century – a knock comprising nine sixes and eight fours – against Sindh. It is the joint-fifth fastest T20 century, and the fastest by a Pakistani batsman, beating the previoius record by five balls.

The record also put Kushdil alongside David Miller and Rohit, both of whom have scored 35-ball centuries in T20Is.

Kushdil’s knock came as Punjab were struggling at 43-4 in the seventh over. By the time he was dismissed, in the 16th over, Punjab’s total had ballooned to 170. However, with they were still a way off their target of 217, and despite the record knock, Punjab had to work for victory. They eventually won by two wickets with two balls remaining.
