“Warney is entitled to his opinion as we all are”
Jason Gillespie has said he doesn’t agree with Shane Warne’s assessment of former Australia captain Steve Waugh as “the most selfish cricketer that [he] ever played with”.
Warne has made the assertion numerous times, notably in his 2018 autobiography No Spin, and reiterated the claim again recently. This time he had the facts to back it up, with Warne quote-tweeting a post from ESPNcricinfo showing that, in run outs involving Waugh, his batting partner was dismissed far more often than he was.
For the record AGAIN & I’ve said this 1000 times – I do not hate S Waugh at all. FYI – I picked him in my all time best Australian team recently. Steve was easily the most selfish cricketer that I ever played with and this stat……. https://t.co/QMigV788L7

Waugh was involved in 104 run outs while batting in international cricket, more than any other player, but was only run out 31 times himself.
Gillespie, 30 of whose 71 Tests came alongside both Warne and Waugh, tweeted that while Warne was “entitled to his opinion”, he didn’t agree with the leg-spinner’s view.
Warney is entitled to his opinion as we all are. I don’t agree with his thoughts on Tugga. https://t.co/oi20uigQmu
