Jasprit Bumrah has been called up to the India Test squad for the first time.
The right-arm seam bowler, who turns 24 tomorrow, will join up with the India team after the current Sri Lanka games as part of the 17-man squad for the South Africa tour in the New Year.
Bumrah came to prominence in blistering style during the 2015 IPL season, turning out for the Mumbai Indians as an unknown enforcer with an extremely unorthodox action. Lining up alongside Lasith Malinga, another bowler with an extraordinary action, the combination of the two baffled batsmen on many occasions.
His emergence in SachinTendulkar’s star-studded, and ultimately victorious side, was enough to propel Bumrah onto the world stage and his form was rewarded with international call-ups to India’s ODI and T20 sides.
He has won 28 ODI caps and 30 T20I caps, averaging 22.3 and 18.4 with the ball respectively.

Bumrah will be vying for a place in the Test side with seamers Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma. Previously capped Parthiv Patel has been brought in as back-up for wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.
