Having toured in 2022 for a two-match T20I series, India are all set to fly to Ireland for a three-match T20I series. The curtain-raiser is on August 18, while the series ends with a match on August 23. Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin will host the white-ball series.
Both sides have announced their squads, with India naming a second-string side. It will be an opportunity for the tourists to test their bench strength before the ODI World Cup later this year.
Ireland v India T20Is 2023: Team news and injury updates
The series will see plenty of comebacks, of which veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah‘s return the most talked about. Expected to play a huge role in India’s 2023 ODI World Cup hunt, Bumrah has been nursing a back injury since his last outing against England in 2022. The pacer is entrusted with the captaincy role of the T20I team for the first time.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will support the 29-year-old pacer as his deputy in the series. Earlier, Gaikwad was named the captain of a young team to feature in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Karnataka quick Prasidh Krishna has also made a comeback after his career got pushed into limbo due to a lumber stress fracture in 2022.
Meanwhile, all-rounders Fionn Hand and Gareth Delany have returned to the Ireland squad after their T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier miss in July. Ireland have sealed their berth for the 2024 T20I World Cup. Delany was recovering from a wrist injury picked during the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. Paul Stirling will lead the 15-member Irish squad.
