Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi has become the oldest player to top the ICC ODI all-rounders’ ranking, ending Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan’s long reign at the top of the chart.

Nabi, who has previously been ranked as the No.1 T20I all-rounder, gained a place on the back of his fighting 136 against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Pallekele. At the age of 39 years and one month, Nabi became the oldest cricketer to top the all-rounders’ chart, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, who did so at 38 years and eight months in 2015.
Shakib held on to the top spot for 1,739 days – from 7 May 2019 (when he took over from Rashid Khan) until 9 February 2024 – the longest anyone has ever topped the all-rounders’ chart. However, Shakib hasn’t had the best of times in international cricket recently because of an ongoing retinal condition in his left eye, opening up a path for Nabi to take his place.

There are plenty of other big movers in the latest chart update, mostly owing to some impressive performances in the ongoing ODI series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Azmatullah Omarzai’s 149 in the first ODI elevated him 19 places to 57th, while Charith Asalanka advanced five spots to a career-best 15th position, riding his unbeaten 97 in the second ODI. Pathum Nissanka’s record-breaking double-hundred in the curtain-raiser game helped him to move up 10 spots to 18th.
Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga jumped 14 spots to 26th after his four-wicket haul, while left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka went from 37th to 33th.
