The upcoming Africa Regional Qualifier will be played between November 22 and 30. Seven African sides will fight amongst each other to seal the last two spots up for grabs for the ICC Men’s 2024 World Cup.
Zimbabwe and hosts Namibia have become eligible for the regional final on the back of their Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 participation, with Uganda also getting a bye to the last qualification stage because of their final finishing position during the 2022 Global Qualifier. Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Nigeria will join the three sides in the tournament, hoping to claim an upcoming T20 World Cup berth in the USA and the Caribbean.
Sikandar Raza has succeeded Sean Erwine as the men’s T20 captain of Zimbabwe after their disappointing series loss to Namibia in the build-up to the Africa Qualifiers. They will be buoyed by the returns of key players like Blessing Muzarabani and Sean Williams, who didn’t feature in the preparatory series.
Meanwhile, the Gerhard Erasmus-led Namibia will look to extend their good run against Zimbabwe. While defending a paltry 101 on October 30, Namibia skittled out their opponents for just 93 runs thanks to the left-arm pair of JJ Smit and Bernard Scholtz, who took three wickets apiece to get a famous 3-2 series victory.
