Star leg-spinning all-rounder Hasaranga had to pull out of IPL 2024 due to a chronic heel injury. There was previous uncertainty around his participation in the IPL, with reports suggesting he would join his franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, after the first few games. However, the injury proved bad enough for him to have to miss the entire season.
Fortunately for Sri Lanka fans though, Hasaranga is well on his path to recovery and is set to be fit for the T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka announced their squad today (May 9), naming Hasaranga as their skipper with Charith Asalanka set to be his deputy. Senior pro Angelo Mathews has also found a spot, after having made a comeback to the T20I side earlier this year following a nearly three year gap.
Sri Lanka have also announced four travelling reserves: fast bowler Asitha Fernando, all-rounder Janith Liyanage, batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and leg-spinner Vijayakanth Vyaskanth, who recently made his IPL debut for SRH having been brought in as Hasaranga’s replacement.
Sri Lanka are placed in Group D at the T20 World Cup and are scheduled to start their campaign against South Africa on June 3. They will also play Bangladesh, Nepal, and Netherlands, the other three teams in their group. All of Sri Lanka’s matches are scheduled in the USA.
