The first ever Zim Afro T10 League will run till July 29, 2023, and will be played entirely in the Zimbabwe city of Harare. The five teams that are taking part in the competition are Bulawayo, Cape Town, Durban, Harare and Johannesburg.
A draft for the league was held earlier this month, where Cape Town and Harare selected 17 players each, Durban and Bulawayo picked 15 and Joburg signed on 16. Each of the five teams also needed to pick at least one more player from the Emerging scouting programme, an initiative by Zimbabwe Cricket.
A total of eight Pakistan players will feature in the tournament, with six Indians also taking part. Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, Parthiv Patel, Robin Uthappa and S Sreesanth are the six players from India participating in the Zim Afro League.
Each side will play six league games, taking on all sides in the competition at least once. They will face two teams twice, taking the tally to seven matches in the first round. The top four teams will then make the playoffs. Qualifier 1 will be played by the top two sides, with the Eliminator between the third and fourth teams. As is the case in the Indian Premier League, the Qualifier 2 will decide the last finalists.
