Watch: Pakistan left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar knocked Australia international Ben McDermott’s middle stump out of the ground with a quick arm-ball in Gloucestershire’s T20 Blast match against Hampshire yesterday (June 21).

David Payne took the new ball after Gloucestershire elected to bowl first in Bristol. Bowling to the opening pair of James Vince and McDermott, only one leg-bye came off his first over.

Gohar opened up from the other end with the second over of the game. He surprised McDermott by the speed of the delivery he sent down first-up, which beat him all ends up.

Delivered with a high-arm release, the back-of-length ball came back in with the arm and took out McDermott’s middle stump. He looked to punch it off the backfoot with the turn, but the ball went straight, finding the huge gap between the bat and his body and uprooting his middle stump.

The Hampshire middle order contributed with the bat but was not able to provide the necessary acceleration to take the team to an above-par total. They finished on 158-7 with Gohar bowling three overs for 1-18.

The second innings was affected by rain as the Gloucestershire received a revised target of 84 from nine overs. Their openers got off to horrible starts, combining to score five runs off 13 balls. However, Ben Wells and Ben Charlesworth rescued their innings and finished the chase with five balls and eight wickets to spare.

This was just the fourth victory for the Gloucestershire this season out of ten games so far. They are now seventh on the table in the South Group, while Hampshire sit in fourth with six victories from 11 games.
