The six, and the knock itself, brought back memories of a Tendulkar in his prime, one who dominated bowling attacks throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The six particularly took fans back in time, with shades of the authoritative six he hit off Andy Caddick during the 2003 World Cup game between India and England.
Tendulkar was batting on 23 off 21 balls when Best sent down a short of length ball outside off stump. Just like he did in his active playing days, Tendulkar judged the length perfectly, shifting across and hooking the ball, calculated at 132 kph, over the fine-leg fence. There was probably a hint of top-edge in the stroke, but nothing could take away the authority with which he got underneath the ball and swatted it over the ropes.
The six was one of three he hit in the innings, scoring a fine 42-ball 65 that earned him the Player of the Match award and took his side to the final of the tournament.
