Watch: On his PSL debut, 17-year-old Mohammad Zeeshan castled Quetta Gladiators captain Rilee Rossouw with a brilliant slower ball.

Mohammad Zeeshan had shot to the limelight at the 2023 Under-19 Asia Cup with six wickets against Nepal and four more against India. At the 2024 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, Zeeshan finished with six wickets at 26 apiece while going at 4.87 an over as Pakistan lost at the semi-final stage.

Zeeshan is already two metres tall – that height may increase, for he is only 17 – which helps him generate awkward bounce.

Picked by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2024, Zeeshan made his tournament debut straight away. Babar Azam gave him the new ball along with Luke Wood, but he went for runs as Jason Roy (75 in 48 balls) and Saud Shakeel (74 in 47) put on 157 for the opening stand in 92 balls.

Having conceded 30 off his first three overs – all inside the powerplay – he returned to bowl in the 17th over. Bowling from over the wicket, he took the pace off the fourth ball, sending it at only 109.7kph at the left-handed Rilee Rossouw, the newly appointed captain of the Quetta Gladiators.

The ball landed on a leg-stump line. Rossouw, too early in the stroke, missed it completely and was bowled. Zeeshan finished with figures of 4-0-38-1 before Sherfane Rutherford (20 in 13 balls) pushed Quetta to 206-5.
