David Willey and Dawid Malan are among the ten English players picked up in the draft ahead of the 2024 edition of the Pakistan Super League, which took place today (December 13).

Willey, who retired from international cricket at the end of the 2023 World Cup, was the first pick in the draft, selected in the Platinum category by Multan Sultans. Highly rated 23-year-old Jordan Cox was also picked in the same category, earning a bumper deal with Islamabad United. The other platinum players were Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams and Mohammad Nawaz (Karachi Kings), Fakhar Zaman and Rassie van der Dussen (Lahore Qalandars) and Noor Ahmad (Peshawar Zalmi).

Two England players, Malan and Tymal Mills, were snapped up in the Diamond category. Malan will join Willey at Multan Sultans, while Mills will team up with Cox at Islamabad United. Further down, there was a Gold deal for Reece Topley (Multan Sultans), Silver deals for Dan Lawrence (Lahore Qalandars) and the uncapped Dan Mousley (Peshawar Zalmi), with Chris Jordan (Multan Sultans), Tom Curran (Islamabad United) and Jamie Overton (Karachi Kings) picked up in the supplementary bracket.

There were notable deals for some Pakistani youngsters. Hunain Shah will join his brother Naseem at Islamabad United, while Mohammad Zeeshan, the two-metre tall quick who has made waves for Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup, will play for Peshawar Zalmi, each in the emerging category. Saad Baig, Pakistan U19 captain, went to Karachi Kings as a supplementary player.

Among the most high-profile names overlooked are Ahmed Shehzad and Haider Ali.
