Watch: Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi produced a toe-crushing yorker to grab a wicket in the first over of the Quetta Gladiators’ chase.
It is hard to distinguish what is more of a trademark for the tall left-arm quick – the in-swinging yorker or a wicket in the opening over of the innings. Defending 198, Shaheen removed Abdul Bangalzai to give his side the perfect start and immediately put pressure on the Gladiators.
Bangalzai was promoted to open in this game instead of Jason Roy but that experiment lasted just a ball before he fell victim to the fierce yorker.
Shaheen continued to cause trouble, with a string of yorkers to Jason Roy causing the England opener issues, at one point knocking him clean off his feet. He struck twice more later on, finishing with figures of 3-22.
Shaheen is returning from an injury that he sustained in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup final loss to England and is hoping to lead his side to back-to-back Pakistan Super League titles.
